The 4 Core Values of SAFe: Alignment

When we don’t have alignment, we all know that there is a lot of energy that is spent but we don’t actually get to where we want to go. In SAFe, the purpose of alignment as a core value is to make sure that even though we have Agile Teams, if they are not aligned, everybody will be very busy. So once we have recognised that an organisation is not aligned, how can we make sure that we achieve this core value within our team and organisation as a whole?

First and foremost, we can make sure that our strategy and delivery are linked in by communicating what it is we want to get to and why we want to get it. We can also provide a common language within SAFe, that everybody understands and ensure that the meaning is the same across teams in the Agile Release Train.

Another part of SAFe and alignment is ensuring that there is congruence in the PI Planning, which is one of those areas where the Business Executives and Product Management provide the vision and the team provides that understanding through interactions.

Through continual exploration and engagement we can begin to truly understand our customers, their problems and how we can as a team deliver high-product quality and maximise the value we bring to the organisation and team as a whole.
