Which course is right for you?

SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) from Scaled Agile and Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) from Scrum Alliance are two of the most popular agile courses offered globally. Both courses are designed to help individuals and organizations implement an agile framework, one being SAFe, and one being Scrum. Both focus on the same role. Both are also considered entry-level, but there are many differences between them.

The SAFe POPM course is best if you are interested in or already working in the Scaled Agile Framework, while the CSPO course is for you if you’re looking to learn Scrum itself and don’t need to know about the SAFe framework. CSPO introduces Scrum and POPM introduces Scaled scrum (SAFe). So, it also depends on whether you’re interested in single/multi-team scrum or enterprise scrum.

SAFe® Product Owner/Product Manager

What skills do you need to deliver value in a Lean enterprise? The SAFe® Product Owner / Product Manager (POPM) course covers the tactical responsibilities of these roles in the Agile Release Train. The course also gives you the guidance and tools you need to work effectively in remote environments with distributed teams.

Questions covered:

  • How do POs and PMs plan and execute work during a PI?
  • How do you integrate a customer-centric mindset to deliver products customers want?
  • How do you connect SAFe Lean-Agile principles and values to the PO/PM roles?

Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)®

Want to learn how to create a strong, compelling product vision and convert that into a product strategy which rapidly moves to roadmap and into development in the form of a prioritized Product Backlog? You’ll also learn to work with Strategyzer’s Value Proposition Canvas that will help you build products and services that continuously delight your customers. Become a Product Owner and master product and service development within Scrum environments, in collaboration with Scrum Teams and Project Stakeholders.

Questions covered:

  • What is scrum and where did it come from?
  • What are the roles, meetings, ceremonies, and artifacts in scrum?
  • What are the responsibilities of the PO in Scrum?

Summary

Overall, the SAFe POPM course is for you if you want to learn scrum at scale, from a product-focused lens. The CSPO course is the better option if you want to learn Agile & Scrum from its core principles.

If you’re looking to understand the role of the product owner in SAFe – the best choice is the SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM).

If you’re interested in the role of the product owner in Scrum – the Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) course is for you.
