What is the most important aspect of agile coaching when working with a traditional organization?
When we (Value Glide) work with any organization for the first time, but particularly with a traditional organization, it’s always about meeting the customer where they are.
Acknowledging and celebrating the successes they have had, up until the moment we begin working with them, as a starting point to inform how best to move forward in alignment with their chosen customer and organizational objectives.
We understand that they are a successful business. We cannot enter the environment with the mindset that everything your project management teams are doing, is wrong. It isn’t true. There are a lot of great elements that we can build from and that’s our goal in every engagement.
Growing Agile Capability
Sure, the organization have identified that they want to be more successful in certain areas, and they have identified that agile or an agile approach is best suited to achieving specific objectives, but it is important to start from a base of success.
A focus on what has worked well, where success has been achieved in the past, and respecting that we are working with a team of professionals who want to do a great job.
The agile industry can be critical or project management or traditional organizations, but we don’t believe that this mindset is valuable or helpful. We focus on helping the organization achieve their future goals and objectives but begin the engagement with the utmost respect for what has already been achieved.
Its simply a process of helping the organization adapt their processes, systems, and mindset to achieve something that they have never achieved before.
We start by:
- Helping the organization identify the problems that are preventing them from achieving their desired goals, objectives, and outcomes.
That is often the hardest part.
The people in the organization are so close to the problem and so immersed in being productive that it can be incredibly difficult to identify the problems, obstacles, and impediments to success.
Our team are advisors and guides that help the organization identify the most compelling problems, and then work with their teams to actively solve the problems and overcome the challenges.
The heroes in every client engagement we have ever had because it is their teams that help cocreate the solutions that lead to improvement, increased success, and the consistent achievement of the goals and objectives that most matter to the organization.
