What is the Hardest Agile Value to Live and Breathe?

Among all the challenges that come with implementing Agile and the Agile Manifesto,  I would say that the hardest value to live and breathe, is definitely customer collaboration. Customer collaboration involves building customers in, rather than proxies for customers within the organisation. And for me I found that this is one of the hardest things to get going and which is why Customer Centricity should be at the forefront of everything we do.  

Customer Centricity at the Forefront  

Another way to view the value of customer collaboration is to see it as ‘Customer Centricity.’ In the most basic sense, Customer Centricity refers to a particular mindset that is aimed at creating positive experiences through continual feedback, research and a continual effort to really understand what the customers’ need.  

 

Embodying and implementing this value in SAFe can involve:  

 🚀 Focusing on the customer.  

🚀 Understanding the customer’s needs. 

🚀 Thinking and feeling like the customer. 

🚀 Building product solutions.  

🚀 Knowing customer value.  

 
At the end of the day, we need our customers on our side to keep the organisation going and so the saying ‘the customer is always right’ holds some weight. But why then do organisations and teams find this such a difficult Agile value to implement? Well I think its combination of lack of understanding of SAFe, its values and lack of alignment in terms of teams and their duties across the Agile Release Train. So, for organisations and teams in the Agile Release Train to live and breathe the value of customer collaboration they need not only work towards delivering a product at the highest value but also build relationships with their target customer market and do the necessary research to remain competitive in the market.
