The 4 Core Values of SAFe: Relentless Improvement

When working in Agile and utilising SAFe, we are always after improvement, and that means that we are never complacent. We are always trying to find a better way to do things and therefore need to find how we can do that. In today’s market environment, change and innovation is happening at three times the speed compared to a decade ago, and which is partly due to the technological advancement and the accompaniment of Artificial Intelligence and the digital age.

So for teams and organisations to stay on track with the market, there needs to be a sort of urgency in the way that we implement the core value of continual improvement in SAFe. If not, our competitors will inevitably overtake us. And this is why we need to always have the mindset towards what the next best thing could be and how we could deliver on that goal and increase our delivery capacity.

But how can we foster a mindset and value of relentless improvement?

Upholding a value such as continual improvement requires creating a culture of growth within the organisation. This means that we need to make sure that the problems we raise have the impact that we need and that the resolution is shared with everyone. Furthermore, we need to ensure that everyone across teams in the Agile Release Train understands what the problem is, why we need to solve it and what the impact is that we need.

Effectively upholding continual improvement will require creativity, curiosity and determination to relentlessly do better than we did yesterday.
