As organisations struggle to remain relevant and meet the fast-paced nature of market trends and the competitive business world, it is only natural that challenges will present themselves along the way. To overcome these challenges, means to overcome change. And where I find that many teams struggle if they are resistant to change, and the more resistant a team or person is towards change, the more likely they are to work from a selfish angle. The key is to meet a team and organisation where they are, and develop from that centre point. In my opinion, there is no problem too big or too small that one cannot overcome; all that is required is a proactive mindset and determination to succeed. 

Support and Enable 

As I have stated before, one of the most common issues that I have seen in teams is misalignment on goals and how they approach change. I therefore always recommend that when a team is struggling with adapting and responding to change and related challenges, the best thing to do is to meet everyone where they are.

This could look like:

🚀Understanding your team member(s) capacity.
🚀 Inviting collaboration and feedback. 

🚀 Supporting team member(s) in achieving their goals. 

🚀 Define what steps need to be taken to achieve success. 

Implement Actionable Success Measures 

Another important part of effectively responding to challenges is to make sure that you set in place adequate success measures when you are striving to move from point A to point B. In other words, you need a baseline and a built-in measurement dashboard that tells you whether or not you are heading the right direction or not, and then take action on the data accordingly. 

 

So for example, you may look at your business results and the outcomes. And if you are not achieving your desired business results or outcomes, you can decide which interventions could help you in moving in the right direction. However in doing so, you should remember that the small wins are equally as important as the big wins, because at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how big or small your success is, as long as you move towards where you need to be. 

Confidence Kills Fear 

Achieving our goals and solving problems as a team will give us confidence and will inspire a sense of meaningfulness. In addition it also builds social proof of transformation and its success. From here we can start to get a sense of our guiding Coalition that will guide us when dealing with future challenges and provide a steady framework to work from. 

 

When we don’t have these things in place, we risk mismanagement, lack of organisation, misalignment and failure. So my advice? Invest in your team, build and follow your guiding principles and be patient with change.
