We hear the phrase now that we are agile we don’t need to …
Unfortunately this is largely fuelled by silver bullet thinking.
Here are some of the recent phrases
- Now that we are agile we don’t need to do any testing. It is all automated.
- Agile business case
- Agile resourcing
Guidelines we find useful on agility journey
- Before doing something you’ve always done – ask yourself why am I doing this? If you don’t get a satisfactory explanation keep asking till you do or you get to know why you don’t need it.
- When you do something ask yourself could I have done this sooner.
- When you are surprised ask yourself what I could have done earlier to avoid the surprise.
Example Questions
System Testing – Why is this a separate phase?
Code review – could we do this sooner?
This isn’t the product I wanted – how could we avoided this surprise?
