A Product Owner is a crucial role within Agile and Scrum software development methodologies, serving as the primary link between the development team and stakeholders. This role is responsible for defining and prioritizing the features and functionalities of a product, ultimately guiding its development in alignment with the overall project goals and customer needs.
Product Owners work closely with stakeholders, such as customers, end-users, and business representatives, to gather and prioritize requirements. They create and manage the product backlog, a dynamic list of tasks and user stories that need to be implemented. The Product Owner also ensures that the development team understands the objectives and maintains a clear vision for the product throughout its lifecycle.
In SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), the Product Owner role is about understanding the customer, understanding how the solution meets the needs of the customer and understanding how the team can achieve the goal.
So although they understand the big picture; they understand the Product Vision and the roadmap through working with the Product Manager and interacting with the team to ensure that the team has got exposure to the customers and has access to the information it needs to deliver great solutions.
