In SAFe, an Agile Release Train refers to teams that are working in harmony in order to achieve their desired goal for the customer. In an Agile Release Train, each team is working independently, with the purpose to make sure each team is working with the same cadence, or in other words the Iteration lengthsmust be the same and in alignment. This means that the start and the end of each Iteration must be the same for all the teams within the Agile Release Train.
So, in the end, we ensure that we are in constant harmony and synchronised. You could also think of the Agile Release Train as a synchronised swimming team, making sure everyone is aligned on their abilities, capacity and are working towards achieving the same goal.
The Agile Release Train (ART) is, therefore an important part of SAFe because it supports and ensures:
🚀 Coordination and Alignment.
🚀 End-to-end Value Delivery.
🚀 Continuous Improvement.
🚀Visibility and Transparency.
🚀 Fosters Agile Mindset and Culture.
🚀Scalability and Flexibility. 🚀Value Delivery Predictability.
Overall, the Agile Release Train plays a critical role in aligning teams, facilitating large-scale planning, managing dependencies, fostering continuous improvement, promoting transparency, and enabling organisations to deliver value at scale with agility. Its structured approach and collaborative environment help organisations navigate complexity, achieve business objectives, and thrive in a rapidly changing market.
